I don’t talk about my love of wrestling often on GeekTyrant, but when I do, it’s because Wrestlemania is just around the corner. This Sunday fans will pack into Orlando to see all their favorite wrestlers clash in a five hour event that always manages to make the past year of dedication and occasionally bad story lines pay off. If you’re someone who’s stepped away from wrestling for awhile, I can’t express enough that now is the time to get back in as the roster is as diverse and full of likable guys as ever.
One of those guys is “The King Of Strong Style” NXT (basically WWE minor league) Shinsuke Nakamura. Nakamura was/is John Cena levels of famous in Japan, and his short time in WWE has shown he could do the same in the States. Most of this is due to his style of wrestling and the fact that he has an incredibly badass theme. That theme gets even more badass when someone does a metal cover of it! Check it out below and if you’ve never seen Shinsuke in action, you gotta see his entrance video from a year back because it’s a thing of beauty. Anyone watching Wrestlemania this weekend? Do we even have wrestling fans on GeekTyrant?
HBO has released the trailer for Game of Thrones Season 7! It’s definitely a great promo that will get fans excited for what to come. It features Jon Snow, Daenerys, and Cersei walking through corridors to the thrones where they will be leading their people and preparing for war. They all look absolutely determined to survive the war that awaits them. The trailer definitely got me even more pumped up for the return of the epic series!
Game of Thrones season 7 is set to premiere on July 16, 2017.
Netflix has released a full trailer for their great-looking new film War Machine. The film stars Brad Pitt, who seems to give an awesome performance as the successful and charismatic four-star general Stanley McChrystal, “who leapt in like a rock star to command NATO forces in Afghanistan, only to be taken down by a journalist’s no-holds-barred exposé.” This definitley looks like one Pitt’s most interesting movie roles yet.
The Netflix original film is based on the book The Operators: The Wild & Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan, which was written by the late journalist Michael Hastings. Here’s a synopsis that was released with the trailer:
A pitch-black war story for our times, writer-director David Michôd (Animal Kingdom) recreates a U.S. General’s roller-coaster rise and fall as part reality, part savage parody – raising the specter of just where the line between them lies today. His is an absurdist look at a born leader’s ultra-confident march right into the dark heart of folly. At the story’s core is Brad Pitt’s sly take on one of the most polarizing war figures of a generation.
War Machine also has an impressive supporting cast that includes Tilda Swinton, Sir Ben Kingsley, Anthony Michael Hall, Topher Grace, Will Poulter, Lakeith Stanfield, Emory Cohen, John Magaro, RJ Cyler, Alan Ruck, Scoot McNairy, and Meg Tilly.
Batgirl is getting her very own solo film at Warner Bros. and Avengers director Joss Whedon is going to write, direct, and produce the film! How freakin’ awesome is that!
There are no details on the story project right now, but there’s no doubt that fans are going to flip out over the fact that Whedon is going to be developing the movie. He’s the perfect director to take it on and I can’t wait to see what he does with the character!
According to Variety, the film will also include other characters from the city of Gotham, we just don’t know who exactly those characters will be yet. I’m so excited about this!
As soon as more detail become available will let you know! In the meantime tell us what you think about Whedon directing Batgirl!
This first trailer has arrived for The Book of Henry, which comes from Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow. The story follows two adventurous brothers who discover that the family next door is hiding a terrible secret. As you’ll see from the trailer, it seems like Trevorrow was heavily inspired by the classic films of Steven Spielberg. I absolutely love the tone of this movie and it looks fantastic!
Sometimes things are not always what they seem, especially in the small suburban town where the Carpenter family lives. Single suburban mother Susan (Naomi Watts) works as a waitress at a diner, alongside feisty friend Sheila (Sarah Silverman). Her younger son Peter (Jacob Tremblay) is a playful 8-year-old. Taking care of everyone and everything is Susan’s older son Henry (Jaeden Lieberher), age 11. Protector to his adoring younger brother and tireless supporter of his often self-doubting mother – and, through investments, of the family – Henry blazes through the days like a comet. Susan discovers that the family next door, which includes Henry’s kind classmate Christina (Maddie Ziegler), has a dangerous secret – and that Henry has devised a surprising plan to help. As his brainstormed rescue plan for Christina takes shape in thrilling ways, Susan finds herself at the center of it.
The Book of Henry hits theaters on June 16th and I can’t wait to see it! Watch the trailer and tell us what you think!
During the Warner Bros. presentation at CinemaCon, we got see some cool never-before-seen footage from Justice League and Wonder Woman. They also shared some spectacular concept art from Aquaman, which hasn’t started shooting yet. We talk about all of the things we saw in our reaction video above.
The Nerdwriter is here with a new video essay that praises actor Jack Nicholson for his ability to convey multiple types of anger on screen. I’ve obviously noticed Nicholson’s explosions of emotion in his films, but I’ve never really considered his exploration of anger throughout his entire career, and this video does a good job of putting it all in context.
Universal Pictures recently screened the highly anticipated film TheFate of the Furious at CinemaCon, and we were there to enjoy it! If you’re a fan of the Fast and Furious franchise, you’re going to absolutely love this movie! Check out our video review for it above!
The first half of the review doesn’t contain any spoilers, but the second half does. We let you know in the video when to stop watching if you don’t want anything spoiled for you. Like why Dom decided to turn against his family.

It’s no surprise that I am very excited for the public release of the film Sleight. I have been since it was shown at Sundance last year. You can read my review here. If you don’t want to take the time to click that and read the review, then I’ll give you the CliffsNotes.
A young street magician who works for a drug dealer uses the abilities he’s gained as a magician to break free from the dealer’s grip. It is great. The characters are relatable and down to earth and the stakes are high while not being end of the world high. It’s also personal, which gives it a stronger depth than many of the big blockbuster superhero films we’re used to seeing.
The new trailer shows off some decent acting and gives a good feel for the tone of the film. I’m also quoted in it, which feels super cool. The film comes out April 28th. Definitely check it out. It is going to be a dark horse in the sci-fi film race this summer.
When Bo (Jacob Latimore), a handsome and gifted high school student, suddenly becomes the sole caretaker for his little sister, Tina, he foregoes college to dedicate his talents to the craft of magic. He wows audiences as a street magician but still has to make ends meet, so he cleverly uses his skills to peddle drugs for the local dealer, Angelo. However when Bo falls for Holly, an adorable teenager in need of support, he decides to get out of the drug business, causing Angelo to threaten his family. Bo must now rely on his sleight of hand and brilliant mind to save the day.
A new poster has been released for Matthew Vaughn‘s Kingsman: The Golden Circle that teases the return of Colin Firth, who, as you all know, died in the first film. What’s interesting is that the actor also gets top billing on the poster, which leads me to believe Harry Hart might have bigger role in the film than initially thought. I have no idea how they are going to handle his return, but we’ll find out soon enough.
20th Century Fox also released the first official plot synopsis for the film, which reads:
Kingsman: The Secret Service introduced the world to Kingsman – an independent, international intelligence agency operating at the highest level of discretion, whose ultimate goal is to keep the world safe. In Kingsman: The Golden Circle, our heroes face a new challenge. When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, their journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the US called Statesman, dating back to the day they were both founded. In a new adventure that tests their agents’ strength and wits to the limit, these two elite secret organizations band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy, in order to save the world, something that’s becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy…
I love the first film and I’m sure this sequel is going to end up being just as insane and entertaining as the first one. I can’t wait until we get to see our first footage from the film!
The film has an impressive cast that also includes Taron Egerton as Gary ‘Eggsy’ Unwin, Julianne Moore as Poppy, Jeff Bridges, Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal as Jack Daniels, Mark Strong as Merlin, Halley Berry as Ginger, Vinnie Jones, and Sophie Cookson as Roxy.
