These days it’s almost like every popular trailer that’s released gets the stop-motion LEGO makeover and the Deadpool 2 trailer is no exception. It was created by Huxley Berg Studios and they did a fantastic job, especially when it gets to the brief, but wild action sequences. The video came with the following note:
In a world consumed by malicious door mates. One maid from Brooklyn must build an alliance of Ikea furniture and rejected cereal mascots. They must build an unbreakable bond and conquer the shoe covered overlords. Watch the emotional tale here.
I know that a lot of Marvel fans assume that we are going to see some of our favorite Marvel heroes die over the course of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4. It’s going to happen. The big question is… what characters in the MCU are going to bite the dust, and what character will live to fight another day after the epic grand finale?
Directors Joe and Anthony Russo are in no way involved what happens in the MCU after Avengers 4. As of right now, finishing this overreaching story arc is the only thing that they are focused on. During an interview with Vanity Fair, Anthony Russo said that they are “not participating in any thought whatsoever about what happens after these movies”.
However, they do have a say in who lives in and who dies. When talking about the character’s deaths, they reveal that they were given a list of characters that they are allowed to kill.
“So we know who we’re allowed to kill, and that’s about it. I don’t even think Marvel had any ideas about where they would go after [3 and 4]. It’s not an end for all of these characters; it’s an end for some of these characters. So some of these characters will go on. So it’s more complicated, that’s why it’s not a clean ending.”
It’s sad to think that there are some characters who we will never see in the MCU again. My money is on Captain America and Iron Man dying in a blaze of glory together as they fight alongside each other to save the universe. That would make the biggest impact.
Since we know that there will be a Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel and a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, I believe the characters involved with these films are safe. James Gunn goes on to talk about killing off characters and says he believes Marvel needs to bring a permanent end to some heroes to prove that there are real stakes in this world they’ve created.
“I think part of that is also the natural evolution of the series. You can’t keep making movies that are too similar. You can’t make the same movie over and over again. If Marvel is going to survive, they have to start making movies with characters who are a little different. They have to start allowing characters to die. They have to start having stakes really mean something if they want people to stay interested.”
I wholeheartedly agree with that statement and it looks like Marvel is finally going to really start raising the stakes in the MCU.
What characters do you think are going to die by the time Avengers 4 is over?
We’ve heard time and time again that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is headed toward something that’s going to be different than what we’ve been seeing since 2008’s Iron Man. Wil films like Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor: Ragnarok, and Black Panther we can see the direction that the MCU might be heading.
After Avengers 4 is released, anything can happen! During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Ant-Man and The Wasp star Evangeline Lilly talks about where Marvel is headed and compares the shift that we are about to see to the hit TV series LOST.
“When I heard about Infinity War and the direction that they’re heading, I did have this moment of realizing, oh, wow, there’s a bit of a déjà vu for me with the Lost franchise. We are hitting that [Lost] Season 4 space where everything’s about to shift, and you’re about to lose the solid ground underneath you. And [Ant-Man and the Wasp], of course, will play a part in that.”
Lilly goes on to tease that the future of Marvel is going to be a lot more quirky, saying:
“Frankly, if it wasn’t Kevin at the helm, I think I would be very, very nervous to be losing these pillars and the people who paved a way for characters like the Wasp. When he walked me through the general story arc of Infinity War, it dawned on me: oh, I understand now, we’re moving into this new Phase. The color of that new Phase can be clearly seen emerging through Ant-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Thor: Ragnarok. It’s just a more colorful, more playful, heightened reality that we’re going to enter.”
I know a lot of fans have been worried that the MCU would be getting a lot sillier with Thor: Ragnarok being so successful, and it sounds like that might be the case. But, I also think that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is too smart to make all of these film like that. I still think we’ll see a good mix of different styles as Marvel keeps experimenting and trying new things.
It also seems to be made clear that Ant-Man and the Wasp will carry over into the next phase of the MCU as she says they will play a part in that.
Warner Bros. has released another wonderfully delightful trailer for Paddington 2, which stars Hugh Grant and Brendan Gleeson. As a fan of the first film, I’m looking forward to this sequel. It actually looks like it will at least be just as good and fun as the first movie, so I’m looking forward to checking it out.
The sequel finds “Paddington happily settled with the Brown family in Windsor Gardens, where he has become a popular member of the community, spreading joy and marmalade wherever he goes. While searching for the perfect present for his beloved Aunt Lucy’s hundredth birthday, Paddington spots a unique pop-up book in Mr. Gruber’s antique shop, and embarks upon a series of odd jobs to buy it. But when the book is stolen, it’s up to Paddington and the Browns to unmask the thief…”
Hugh Grant takes on the role of Windsor Gardens’ local celebrity, Phoenix Buchanan, “a vain, charming acting legend whose star has fallen somewhat in recent years.” Then there’s Brendan Gleeson who plays “Knuckles” McGinty, “a notorious safe-cracker and legendary strongman who becomes an unexpected new ally for Paddington.” Gleeson looks awesome in this movie!
Paddington 2 is directed by Paul King (Paddington, Come Fly with Me, The Mighty Boosh) and the film also stars Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Peter Capaldi, Madeleine Harris and Samuel Joslin and Ben Whishaw will once again provide the voice of Paddington.
Paddington 2 will open in UK theaters on November 10, 2017 and in North America on January 12, 2018.
