Original STAR WARS Trilogy Films Get Modern FORCE AWAKENS Style Trailers

Ever since Lucasfilm started marketing Star Wars: The Force Awakens we’ve seen all kinds of Star Wars fan trailers incorporating elements from the Force Awakens trailers with the original trilogy. Today we have three new fan trailers for the original trilogy created by YouTube user and Star Wars fan Tom F.

The trailers for each of these films were edited together in the style of the third trailer for The Force Awakens and they turned out great! These actually might be the best fan trailers that I’ve seen. They are definitely worth checking out.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released to watch on digital download on April 1st and on April 5th it will hit  Blu-ray/DVD.

Ben Affleck Discusses the Legacy He Wants to Leave as Batman

In about two weeks, Ben Affleck debuts as Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. In a recent interview with EW, the actor talked about his character and the legacy he hopes to leave  as the caped crusader. When asked what his contribution would be to the Dark Knight’s legacy, Affleck said:

“Oh gosh, I wouldn’t. I would leave that for other people to say. What I wanted was to create a Batman that was sort of at the end of his rope physically and psychologically and emotionally, a guy who was beaten down by the world, a guy who was a little bit more of a slugger, who has more gray in his hair, and who was questioning whether the whole journey that he lived as Batman was in fact even worth it, given that he was not superhero, but now had to face a super-being, which none of the other Batmans had to confront in the movie world. It’s an interesting thing to combine, because in the Nolan Batmans, which are the defining Batmans — so magnificent — there are no other superheroes. It’s just this guy. He never has to reconcile who he is with this idea that there are all these other people who can do these supernatural things. Having to confront that and having to deal with that is my contribution to the character.”

When Affleck was first cast in the role a lot of fans were pissed off, but I thought it was an unexpected but great choice. From what we’ve seen of him in the role of the character so far, it seems like he’s going to pull it off awesomely! Will fanboys and fangirls forgive him for Daredevil? Well, that’s something we’ll just have to wait and see. He also spoke about Batman and where he is projecting his anger in the film:

“Yeah, he’s projecting in some ways his own sense of failure, his own sense of disillusionment, his own cynicism onto Superman, having at one point been certainly much more idealistic about what he was doing. He’s also always been kind of a dark guy. You can’t go out at night and avenge crime the way he does, obviously, without a darker view of the world, but you can see that this probably contributes in some degree to the greater cycle of violence. And that doesn’t put an end to crime. There’s a line about weeds just cropping up and criminals are like weeds, you just pull more of them and they grow back. He’s very disillusioned and very bitter.”

He spoke about the devastating effect that the death of Robin had on Gotham City’s hero:

“He’s bitterly disappointed in the past that he’s lost this guy who fought by his side. That character’s death must have been devastating to him, and he’s suffered. We get the sense that he’s suffered a lot of devastating losses before this movie even starts.”

We’ve previously learned that the stories of these tragic loses, like Robin, might be included in the Batman solo film that Affleck is currently helping develop. Affleck was also asked about Wonder Woman and how the character plays into Batman’s thinking. This was his reply:

“It inspires in him the idea that well, if there’s one of these kinds of people out there, then maybe there are in fact more. If there are more, then maybe that’s hopeful and also terrifying to him, because then they could make humans even more powerless — or they could serve on our side. You’ve got to remember that Batman is the world’s greatest detective, and if he suspects that there may be more, and if he suspects in particular that Diana may be somebody special, he gets inspired.”

Batman v Superman is going to be the start of something really exciting and epic. I’m rooting for Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. to succeed. I really want to see these films be awesome and spectacular in every way. It’s going to be cool to see how far they take these characters.

Adult Swim has released a promo trailer for Robot Chicken season eight, and it announces that the hilarious series will be back in action on March 13th! This is one of those series that always, without fail, has me busting up with laughter.

The New International Ghostbusters Trailer Adds Some Yucks

GB 02

by: Jay Carlson – Editor-in-chief

The newest trailer, an international version, for Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters has dropped and gives us some new footage and some additional jokes. This one confirms another bit from our Complete Plot Breakdown from almost a year ago:

Meanwhile, Erin, Abby and Jillian and their new intern named Kevin are brainstorming ideas for a logo for the business website when Patty arrives. Patty brings them down to the tunnel to show them the device.

Read the whole thing at the link above.

The trailer looks ok, I just wish this whole project were handled much differently. I’m still hoping for the best while expecting the worst.

Thirty years after the original film took the world by storm, Ghostbusters is back and fully rebooted for a new generation. Director Paul Feig combines all the paranormal fighting elements that made the original franchise so beloved with a cast of new characters, played by the funniest actors working today. Get ready to watch them save the world this summer!

Rumor: Aaron Paul to Set out for The Dark Tower

Tease From Chris Skinners Upcoming Dark Tower Print

Tease From Chris Skinner’s Upcoming Dark Tower Print

by: S. Scott Stanikmas – Senior Staff Writer

Aaron Paul is a super-fan of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series. Ever since it was rumored to finally be getting off the ground in 2012 the actor lobbied hard for the role of Eddie Dean.

That would seem to be a role made for Paul. Eddie Dean is a wise-ass heroin junkie who is good with a gun. The actor’s career-making role was that of Jesse Pinkman, a wise-ass junkie/drug dealer/meth maker on the hit drama Breaking Bad. Sounds like this is right in his wheelhouse.

Blastr got the jump on this first. However their source couldn’t confirm whether or not the actor would be playing Eddie Dean or not. For now we’ll file this under RUMOR until either SONY or Aaron Paul himself puts the word out there.

For now we know that we’ve got Idris Elba and Matthew McCoaunghey as Roland Deschain (The Gunslinger) and The Man in Black respectively.

If this is true it would be a dream come true for Aaron Paul. I love his work in Breaking Bad and would love to see him return to something in a similar spiritual vein. Keep checking back here as we’ll report any concrete news as soon as we hear about it!

Punisher and Elektra Costumes Revealed for Second Season of Daredevil

by: S. Scott Stanikmas – Senior Staff Writer

In the first season of the Marvel / Netflix show Daredevil it took quite some time for Matt Murdock to don a superhero suit – and even then it was in the season finale for all of one action sequence. The second season promises that we’ll see Hornhead in his proper duds as the trailers can attest to that.

(Or at least as proper as can be. The costume did get some flak for being such a far cry from the comics that people were saying Matt Murdock should have stuck with the black ninja pajamas he used for the majority of the first season.)

But what about Frank Castle (The Punisher) and Elektra Natchios? Will they be seen wearing their classic costumes or will they get the modern day tweak?

This poster showing our three leads should put some minds at ease:

As we can see The Punisher will get his classic skull look, but I still don’t like it. Unless they can find a way to make it plausible for him to paint a giant skull on his bulletproof vest I say it’s impractical. (And shit on it all you want, at least the Thomas Jane Punisher film made the skull shirt an option in a realistic way.)

Elektra however suffers the same costume fate as the ‘Devil though. Sure as a ninja she needs to be hidden so the black works, and she has been seen in black outfits as well as red (and blue, white, etc…) but the design is a far cry from what the comics show her in. I get it though. A revealing and flowing outfit isn’t an option in a realistic setting.

No matter what fans say these costumes are happening. However, as long as the writing and acting are on par with what the fans have come to expect from this show I’m sure minor quibbles like this can be forgiven.

DC/Vertigo’s ‘Scalped’ Could Be Coming to TV

by: S. Scott Stanikmas – Senior Staff Writer

Comic book writer Jason Aaron can craft a mean story. His best work yet has to be the series he did for DC/Vertigo with artist R.M. Guera, Scalped. It’s a mean little pulp noir story set on an Indian reservation and it has everything
awesome – sex, violence, double-crosses and conflicted anti-heroes. And now the comic book series might just be coming to a small screen soon.

The Hollywood Reporter says that WGN America has optioned a pilot episode for Scalped. Right now the only thing known is that Doug Jung (of Showtime’s Banshee) will pen the pilot and DC Comics guru Geoff Johns is on board as an executive producer.

WGN America has been producing some pretty rough and gritty TV lately. Shows like the backwoods crime drama Outsiders and the slavery-era set Underground look to be pushing the envelope as far as edgy programming is concerned. Scalped would fit in nicely with their current roster.

I’ve read the first few trade paperback collections and have been very impressed with what I’ve taken in so far. THR does a pretty good job summing it up:

Scalped is described as a modern-day crime story set in the world of a Native American Indian reservation. It explores power, loyalty and spirituality in a community led by the ambitious chief Lincoln Red Crow, as he reckons with Dashiell Bad Horse who has returned home after years away from the reservation.

The story reads like HBO’s The Wire, but based on an Indian Reservation (or “The Rez” as it’s called). It’s a complicated tale full of twists and turns that eventually have you taking second or even third looks at most of the characters and their motivations.

Keep checking back here as I’ll try to keep up to date with any developments on this story as they become available.
