The Women of The Marvel Cinematic Universe Assemble For a Photo

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently revealed that they have 20 films already in the pipeline after Avengers 4 closes out the overreaching story arc for the MCU that started with Iron Man. One of those films could be an all-female Marvel movie.

Thor: Ragnarok co-star Tessa Thompson revealed that she cornered Feige with several other Marvel actresses and asked him about producing a film that centered around the female superheroes. Feige said “yes” and explained that it could very well happen.

If the film does happen, I imagine it will end up being a Lady Liberators movie, which would be awesome! Lady Liberators is an all-female team in the comics with characters that have included Valkyrie, Wasp, Black Widow and Scarlet Witch. There are more characters that include She-Hulk, Storm, Tigra, Hellcat, Spider-Woman and more.

Now we have a photo featuring many of the actresses that have brought and will bring to life the heroic female characters in the MCU. They include Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Evangeline Lilly (The Wasp), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Danai Gurira (Okoye), and Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie).

It’s kinda cool seeing them all together. The question is, would you want to see them all come together in a movie?

Russell Crowe Says There are Whispers of a MASTER AND COMMANDER Sequel

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World is a favorite film of mine. It’s truly a masterpiece and ever since the first film was released in 2003, I’ve been wanting to see a sequel!

The film is based on of Patrick O’Brian’s book series that consists of 20 novels that follow the adventures of the Jack Aubrey of the Royal Navy and his crew. The series is set during the Napoleonic Wars and centered on the friendship of Aubrey and the ship’s surgeon, Dr. Stephen Maturin, who was played by Paul Bettany in the film.

There are plenty of wonderful stories here to tell in movie form and according to Russell Crowe, there’s actually a possibility that a sequel could happen! He recently tweeted out the following:

I would love nothing more than to see another Master and Commander film, but unfortunately, the first film didn’t do too well at the box office. The movie only made a little under $94 million dollars domestically off of a budget of $150 million. I thought for sure the ship had sunk, but it’s good to hear that there is still hope and whispers of a second voyage.

I have no idea if anything will go beyond the point of whispers, but I’ll be hoping that they do. It would be the best news ever if a sequel ended up being officially announced in the near future! If you’ve never seen it, you need to watch it. It was actually nominated for a Best Picture Oscar and is currently streaming on HBO.

Would you be excited to see a sequel to director Peter Weir‘s Master and Commander

Marvel Studios’ Creative Committee Wanted James Gunn To Cut The Awesome Soundtrack in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY!

marvel-studios-creative-committee-wanted-james-gunn-to-cut-the-awesome-soundtrack-in-guardians-of-the-galaxy-social.jpg

For years, the filmmaking teams working on the Marvel Studios’ films were getting a lot of input and notes from Marvel’s Creative Committee led by Ike Perlmutter was a thorn in their side, which is why Kevin Feige eventually had Disney cut ties with them. Feige ended up orchestrating a move with Disney and CEO Bob Iger to make Marvel Studios a separate entity which would only report to Disney.

One of the more ridiculous things that the Marvel Creative Committee wanted to do is have James Gunn ditch his amazing soundtrack for Guardians of the Galaxy! James Gunn told Vanity Fair that the committee was “a group of comic-book writers and toy people” who gave him “haphazard” notes. As you know, the Guardians soundtrack, “Awesome Mix Vol. 1”, ended up going Platinum.

This committee also consisted of Marvel Comics Publisher Dan Buckley, Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada, Marvel Entertainment President Alan Fine and writer Brian Michael Bendis. This Creative Committee is still a part of all the Marvel TV shows, which could explain a few things.

It doesn’t make sense that they would watch to cut that soundtrack. It was a major component of the film, and I can’t even imagine what the movie would have been like without those classic 60s and 70s tunes. It’s a great thing that Feige and Gunn ended up winning that battle and ultimately filled the movie with that wonderful music!

Studio Ghibli Fan Recreates the Food From The Anime Films of Hayao Miyazaki in Real Life

Food is prevalent throughout Studio Ghibli films. It helps tell the story and it looks delicious. One fan decided it looked so delicious they had to make it. Instagram user en93kitchen has posted several photos of the food from these films alongside photos of the same dish in real life. Those must taste so good. I know I want to try these noodles from Ponyo. While a lot of the food appears to be based on Studio Ghibli films, other anime are referenced including the popular Your Name. What food from Studio Ghibli gets you salivating the most?

Mark Hamill Says Luke Just Meant To Scare The Wampa in EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, Not Dismember It

OneArm-ESB.png

Its one of the most iconic sequences from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Luke hanging from the ceiling of an ice cave on the surface of Hoth, about to become the meal of the ferocious Wampa. Luckily, the young Jedi trainee was able to use the force to grab his lightsaber and slice and dice his way out of the chilly death hole. But according to actor Mark Hamill, he never thought his character was going to dismember the wild creature.

Hamill revealed this bit of information as he responded to a tweet about a cake shaped like a severed wampa’s arm. He explained that while filming The Empire Strikes Back, he was told that Luke would just singe the wampa’s fur in and scare it off. But it wasn’t until later that he learned how Luke actually ended up chopping the poor animal’s arm off.

If you actually go back and watch the infamous scene it makes perfect sense, Luke merely flicks his lightsaber at the Wampa, a movement that would imply a less devastating blow. But then the scene jumps to another shot of the severed arm dropping to the ground. We never actually, you know, see it being properly cut off.  Here is the scene:

Take a Look at This Wonderful Series of Unreleased HARRY POTTER Cover Art From Olly Moss

moss_hogwarts.jpg

The artist Olly Moss has released some cover art for the Harry Potter e-books. Most of these awesome designs have not been used, but Moss seemed really excited when he shared his artwork on Twitter:

Moss has previously done alternate movie posters such as this awesome Star Wars poster. We have also been able to look at the Hogwarts series of these book covers as posters. However, we have not seen the Optical Illusions, Heraldry, Illustrated, and Silhouettes series.

moss_optical_illusions.jpg

The Optical Illusions covers display iconic objects from the book when seen as thumbnails (remember these were designed for e-books and not print) but when blown up they show a hidden image. Out of the few thumbnails we see, I think Goblet of Fire is my favorite.

moss_heraldry.jpg

Then we have the Heraldry series. Moss includes an image of a more detailed version, but I think I prefer the simpler ones. Although all of the thumbnails say Philosopher’s Stone, I think it’s easy to tell which cover belongs with each book. Also, each image features a lightning bolt. Can you find them all?

Third, we come across the Silhouettes family of covers. Each one is a silhouette of Harry from the year he’s in. The pictures tend to age as Harry would. Then, inside the silhouette is a picture that is iconic to the book such as Hagrid and Harry in Diagon Alley for Philosopher’s Stone.

moss_illustrated.jpg

Finally, we have Illustrated. This seems to be the second image from the Silhouette but more fleshed out due to having more cover space. Moss likes having hidden imagery in his art and this is no exception. In the description for this style of cover, Moss says, “[e]ach one incorporating hidden, graphic elements. For example, the lightning bolt revealed in the negative space of the Diagon Alley rooftops.”

These covers are amazing. Which series is your favorite?

Are These Images Our First Look at Netflix’s New Sci-Fi Series ALTERED CARBON?

hnxf08qnxepyz327x5gk.gif

We know that Netflix is working on one of its most expensive projects in the streaming company’s history. It’s a sci-fi series called Altered Carbon, a 10-episode series based on the bestselling novel by Richard K. Morgan. Up until now, we have not seen any teasers or stills from the production but i09 pointed out recently, that several gifs have been making the rounds on Reddit that look like they’re for the upcoming television adaptation. The images have not been confirmed by Netflix but show various businesses in Bay City circa 2384, matching the location and date that the novel takes place.

Altered Carbon takes place in a distant future where people can transfer their consciousness from body to body, making immortality a reality. Society is divided between people who can afford to live forever and those who can’t, creating modern gods who keep themselves above and apart from everyone else. The story follows a soldier (played by Joel Kinnaman) who is “resleeved,” or transferred, into a police officer’s body in order to investigate a conspiracy.

The series is written and produced by Avatar co-writer Laeta Kalogridis, is rumored to be Netflix’s most expensive genre show to date, at $6 to $7 million per episode. Altered Carbon comes out sometime in 2018.

Kevin Feige’s Marvel Journey All Started With Fixing Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine Hair in X-MEN

kevin-feige-is-the-one-who-made-sure-hugh-jackmans-wolverine-hair-was-done-right-in-x-men-social.jpg

One of Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige‘s first gig in the entertainment industry was working as an assistant to Richard Donner‘s wife Shuler Donner. Through this job, he made his way into the world of Marvel movies.

Donner was a producer on Bryan Singer‘s 2000 film X-Men, and that’s where he started to interject his fandom into the comic book films that were being made. If it wasn’t for Feige, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine would have never had that epic hairdo that came right out of the comics. Here’s the story of how that all went down from Vanity Fair:

One day on set, Shuler Donner and Avi Arad, then head of Marvel Studios, watched as an exasperated stylist, at Feige’s insistence, sprayed and teased actor Hugh Jackman’s hair higher and higher to create the hairstyle that would become the signature look of the character Wolverine. The stylist “eventually went ‘Fine!’ and did a ridiculous version,” Feige recalls. “If you go back and look at it,” he admits, “he’s got big-ass hair in that first movie. But that’s Wolverine!” The experience stuck with Feige. “I never liked the idea that people weren’t attempting things because of the potential for them to look silly,” he says. “Anything in a comic book has the potential to look silly. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to make it look cool.”

He has obviously taken this love of Marvel characters throughout his career and it’s paid off! All the risks that he’s been taking with the films of Marvel have been gloriously working. The guy is smart about this stuff and he knows exactly what he’s doing.

After working for Donner, Arad liked what he saw in him with his geeky passion and hired him to work on the Marvel films that he was developing at the various studios. Apparently Arad “sent his new employee to studios that licensed Marvel characters to monitor the company’s intellectual property, offer helpful notes, and generally serve as a Marvel ambassador.” The report goes on to say:

Feige watched directors like Sam Raimi with fascination and others, occasionally, Favreau noted, in “frustration” in the era of films such as Daredevil, Ang Lee’s Hulk, and The Punisher. Feige’s advice was sometimes ignored, and many of those films became notorious flops. “The answers,” Feige still says, explaining why comic-book adaptations go wrong, “are always in the books.”

All of this led to the development of Iron Man and the big gamble they made paid off! Now there are going to be 22 Marvel films in this first overreaching story arc and there are 20 more ready to go into development!

To think… it all started with Kevin Feige making sure Wolverine’s hair looked like it did in the comics.

Images of Henry Cavill’s Unused MAN OF STEEL Superman Suit Surface Online

A couple images have surfaced of Henry Cavill wearing an unused Superman suit for Man of Steel. This is a test suit that was used and as you can see it doesn’t feature the yellow coloring around the classic Superman emblem. In all reality, it’s really not that different from the suit that has been used, but I thought some of you might be interested in seeing what the suit could’ve looked like.

I kinda like the look without the yellow coloring as it has more of a Kingdom Come kinda vibe. But I understand that they wanted to keep the classic colors incorporated into the suit design. This suit in the photos below What do you think about the early test version of the suit?

Some neat photos I came across of @henrycavill in a test suit for Man of Steel. The suit itself can be seen on a mannequin in the special features of the movie 🔥 #superman #manofsteel #henrycavill #supermancosplay #supermancostume
