LORD OF THE RINGS Actor Says J.R.R. Tolkien Would Not Approve Of TV Series

Now that we know JRR Tolkien's seminal Lord of the Rings fantasy series, is getting its own Amazon series that will take place before the events of The Fellowship of the Ring, we have been getting mixed reactions all over the internet. Now one of the stars of the original Peter Jackson trilogy is sharing his opinion. John Rhys-Davies recently revealed his thoughts on the project, going as far as saying were he still alive, Tolkien would be "spinning in his grave" at the thought of the project. While talking to Den of Geek, he said:

"Well, you know they have the money to do it. Why we quite need Lord Of The Rings as a TV series baffles me slightly. I mean, poor Tolkien must be spinning in his grave."

A lot of Tolkien fans see this series as a financial opportunity instead of a creative one. Rhys-Davies feels the same way about it.

"This is the point you see - it’s not about doing it better, it’s about making more money, that’s all. If they think they can make more money, then they will."

Rhys-Davies also suggested what might be a better alternative to the fantasy realm.

"Actually, I've got a better idea for them, or for any company – Lord Of The Rings spun-off an awful lot of imitations about elves and dwarves and things like that and I would simply buy those up and put them together and make a wonderful elvish… there was a trilogy of books that were given to me the other day by a lady author, who’d written an account of the adventures of a dwarvish lady. That would make a far more interesting account of Tolkien's words, in a world like that."

With Game of Thrones wrapping up for good following its next season, there will be a gigantic demand in fantasy-themed programming, which this new series could potentially capture.

"And you know there are hundreds and hundreds of young writers, who have made their contributions and if was a well-heeled film producer, that’s where I'd be looking, because that gives more actors more chances and it’s still a great tribute to Tolkien. It costs less to make and it would be original and fresh, but then what the hell do I know!?"

What do you guys think? Do you agree with Rhys-Davies or do you really want to see what Amazon can do with the Middle Earth?

Rotten Tomatoes Official JUSTICE LEAGUE Score Is In, And It’s Even Lower Than The Leaked Score

The official score for Justice League has finally been revealed by Rotten Tomatoes, and it's even lower than the leaked information claimed:

Yeesh...critics have been none too kind to the film we've all been waiting decades to see. At least the score is way better than Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad...so if you were a fan of those movies, chances are you'll like this romp.

Now guys, I know this is the part where the top comment says "since when do we let critics decide what we think?!" and you're absolutely right...to each their own. That said, RT is an aggregate of the thoughts of many people from different backgrounds with different interests, so there might be something a little wrong with this film.

I think the important thing to remember is all of us are still going to see it anyway, and it's not like bad reviews have stopped any DC movie yet from becoming a box office success. Just hold your head high and keep your expectations low going into the film and you shouldn't be disappointed. Thanks to Uproxx for the heads up.

CW’s Big DC Universe Crossover Event CRISIS ON EARTH-X Will Feature Over 20 Heroes in One Scene

There's a big DC Universe crossover event called Crisis on Earth-X coming to The CW soon that will include characters from Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl. It sounds like it's going to be quite an epic spectacle as there are going to be over 20 heroes gathered together in one scene!

The scene apparently will take place on board the bridge of the time-traveling spacecraft known as the Waverider. When talking about the crossover event in an interview with CB, Brandon Routh says:

"I have a limited adventure in the crossover, but I do get to work with a few people that we had a good time. The best thing that we got to do was the big gathering of everyone here in our world, on the Waverider, which was pretty awesome to have all of those superheroes together, and it was a really unique and fun thing which I think the audience will like as well."

In the story, we will see the group of heroes face off against a group of doppelgangers of themselves from a universe where Nazis won World War II. Sounds like fun! Routh then goes on to reveal that there will at least be 21 heroes in one scene.

"We used to get upset about have nine characters on the bridge and figuring out how to shoot that, but having 21 or whatever it was is pretty insane. But Greg Smith, who was our director for our episode, knew what he wanted pretty quick. You have to have your ducks in a row when doing a crossover because people are coming from four different shows, like 'We have Melissa for 2 hours and we have Grant for an hour, and we have Stephen for 30 seconds,' so you've gotta get the shot!"

So far the list of Superheroes that will appear in the crossover include The Flash, Green Arrow, Supergirl, White Canary, Citizen Steel, The Atom, Citizen Cold, Heat Wave, Zari, Vixen, Vibe, Firestorm, The Ray, Wild Dog, Black Canary, and then there are characters like Felicity Smoak and Iris West.

Crisis on Earth-X will take place on November 27th and 28th, for two hours each night, beginning at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW. You can watch a promo spot below teasing what is to come.

Eerie Trailer For Emily Blunt and John Krasinski’s Supernatural Thriller A QUIET PLACE

Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for the upcoming supernatural horror thriller A Quiet Place. The Film was directed by John Krasinski, who also stars in the movie alongside his wife Emily Blunt

The story set on a farm where a family has been terrorized by a supernatural ghostly being. We don't know much more about the story, but the film doesn't have a lot of dialogue because silence is survival. As the trailer shows us, "If they can't hear you, they can't haunt you."

I love the concept of this film and it looks like it will make a great horror flick! The movie was produced by Michael Bay and it also stars Noah Jupe (Suburbicon, Wonder) and Millicent Simmonds (Wonderstruck).

A Quiet Place opens on April 6, 2018.

The cast photo most notably features a new look at Johhny Depp as the villain and we get our first glimpse of Jude Law as a younger Albus Dumbledore. Here's the synopsis:

At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.
In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.

THE PUNISHER Showrunner Explains Why None of the Defenders Will Appear in The Series

The Punisher is Marvel's next big Netflix flagship series, and while everyone knows that they exist in the same universe, none of the big four Defenders will be making an appearance in the series. Marvel has made sure that they don't get tied together, but why?

Steve Lightfoot, who is the showrunner on the show, recently told Syfy Wire the reason for the separation, and it makes a little sense:

"I think it's something that you need to talk to someone in Marvel about that because when I came in to take the show on, it was always very clear to me that they wanted it to sort of tell its own story and run on its own track and not really intersect with what was happening in The Defenders. That was part of the brief.
"I guess I could speculate on the reasons for that, but I think from what I understand the original concept for the four characters that became The Defenders was always the plan and the Punisher spun out of that. But very much certainly when I came in the brief was always that it was to be its own show and its own thing separate from that."

So, from the sounds of it, they've had some big Defenders plans from the beginning and even though people want Punisher, he was never part of the plan. This almost feels like when Daredevil wasn't going to have any crossover with the Avengers movies, but it's still a "connected universe". I know I'm complaining a lot, but The Punisher played such an interesting role in Daredevil, that I guess I'd love to see him interact with the other Defenders as well.

Maybe Punisher could start his own crew-niverse. I mean, we already have the Defenders being street heroes, who's to say we can't see Punisher put together some Thunderbolts. He won't have to deal with the Defenders, maybe he gets a crew of people who are the worst, like Elektra, Blade, and Ghostrider. Each of them get their own Netflix series and they all team up for Thunderbolts series. Do it!

It seems Marvel has a lot of plans for the Defenders. I can't wait to see what happens next. I just hope they take two steps forward without the step back.

THE BATMAN Director Matt Reeves Has An Actor In Mind If Ben Affleck Walks Away

There have long been rumors that Ben Affleck wants out of the DC Extended Universe as Batman, and with Justice League just a few days away, a new rumor says a replacement for Affleck is already being considered if he decides to walk.

On a recent episode of John Campea's YouTube show, he shared that a Hollywood insider revealed to him that The Batman director Matt Reeves has already thought about who will replace Affleck should he leave.

"I'm hesitant to say anything, but I talked to a Hollywood producer yesterday and they gave me the name of who Matt Reeves wants [to replace Affleck] as Batman," Campea said. "And, I've got to be honest with you, that name caught me a little bit by surprise. I called somebody else later in the day, saying 'hey, I heard this, is there any validity to this?' And they said 'well, Matt does want him.' But, that doesn't mean it's going to happen. There's been no movement or anything like that."

There has not been any official word that Affleck is departing the Batman role, even Affleck himself has openly said that he's already considering how to hang up his cowl. In a recent interview, Affleck said he was pondering how it would end, noting that playing Batman is something he can't do forever.

This wouldn't be the first time Batman actors changed within the same cinematic universe. You may remember that in 1995, Val Kilmer replaced Michael Keaton's Batman in Batman Forever only to be replaced AGAIN by George Clooney in 1998 for Batman & Robin. And even though the DCEU may use the upcoming Flashpoint movie as a way to address a potential casting change, Campea didn't think that any recast would even be acknowledged.

"I think it's going to be a pure recast. I don't think they're going to do anything terribly convoluted with Flashpoint."

Unfortunately, no names were given as to whom Reeves would want, but it could be fun to speculate. But, for now, Affleck is Batman in the DCEU and fans will get to see him in action this week. Who do you think would make a decent replacement for Ben Affleck as batman?

Justice League opens in theaters November 17th.

Mel Gibson and Frank Grillo To Star in GROUNDHOG DAY-Style Action Thriller BOSS LEVEL

Mel Gibson and Frank Grillo may end up teaming up in a new action thriller from director Joe Carnahan (Smokin' Aces, A-Team, The Grey) called Boss Level. The actors are currently in talks to join the project and the movie is pretty much like a Groundhog Day-style action thriller.

Every day, a retired special forces veteran (Grillo) is trapped in a never-ending loop resulting in his death. In order to stop his endless suffering, he must figure out who is responsible and stop them. Carnahan wrote the script.

The film's concept also seems to have a lot in common with the recently released Happy Death Day, which follows a young girl who relives the same day over and over again until she finds out who keeps killing her.

With Joe Carnahan on board to direct, you know Boss Level has a good chance of being a completely insane action movie that will be a blast to watch. Having Gibson and Grillo on board to star in the film will just be the icing on the cake.
